FLASH: Freeze button

I'm trying to simulate a form in Flash. What I would like to 

accomplish is have a check box symbol. (starts as blank square and 

when hit turns into a checked box). The symbol part is 

straightforward, is there anyway to make the "hit" state 

semipermanent.
