Thanks everyone for the info. I think I will go with the MC's, as the way
people feel about plug-ins. Otherwise I would probably use Beatnik.
Also John, there's a small problem with the URL you gave me, the Detection
script/movie doesn't like the F4 Plug-in. ;)
Thanks again

Subject: FLASH: Problem with Illustrator

I created a drawing in Illustrator 8 and saved it as a version 6 .ai file
since that appears to be the latest version that Flash can import. Illustrator
can read it back fine, but Flash can't read it. I also tried the .eps format
with the same result. I've successfully imported Illustrator files in the
past. Anyone know what aspects of an Illustrator drawing might contribute to
its not being importable? About the only feature that might be considered
'advanced' is that my drawing has text arranged along a curved path.

Hi John,

Where do I locate Vectra 3D? Is it from a familiar company like Metacreations, and is it also for
the Macintosh platform?

Hey, anything that would expediate the creation of 3D objects and animations in Flash is always
welcome :-)

Hi,

I'm having a problem with a Flash animation I've just
finished, text and lines are appearing all choppy on
some computers - looks fine on others. Flash 3 was used.
I've tried turning off and on both the Antialias and
the Antialias Text options, nothing affected the
result.
Anyone had this experience before?

It's an archive site from 98 and I hadn't even been though of it until
the post but I'll put it on the upgrade list. It's normal entry page is
F4 compatible but isn't publicly available at the moment. The following
link will work with Flash 4.

Go into your HTML code and change all references to quality=autohigh to
quality=high.

That should do it. I believe you could also change it to quality=best and
get the same result.

Make the following changes to your code:

<!-- Aftershock st3.swf 3=500 4=300 38 -->
<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"

codebase="http://active.macromedia.com/flash2/cabs/swflash.cab#version=3,0,0
,0"
ID=st1 WIDTH=500 HEIGHT=300>
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="st3.swf">
<PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=autohigh> <------change this to High
<PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF>
<EMBED SRC="st3.swf" swLiveConnect=FALSE WIDTH=500 HEIGHT=300
QUALITY=autohigh <-----change this to High

in other words go into the html/aftershock code and change the Value and
Quality settings to High.....you now have it at Auothigh.

that will do the trick.

I will be making a Help page for the search.

Also, AtomZ has a report on what words have been searched for and I am
getting a better idea of what people are looking for and will use that
information to guide our sites. I will use this information to help
decide which tutorials we make next, whether the search is finding the
pages you need and to determine what to specific links to look for and
evaluate on 3rd party sites (not FC and not MM).

One interesting thing is people are looking for my telephone numbers,
which are available by email request only right now. Clients always have
them, but I'm not going to publicly post them on the Web site, since I
don't have a full time secretary.

Try setting the Shockwave quality to "high" in aftershock if you haven't

Vera,
Looks like you need to set the Flash Quality to High as opposed to the
default of Auto-High. This is set in either Aftershock, or the HTML program
you are using. When Flash runs on slower machines it can drop the image
quality to help keep the animation's moving.

Good luck,
Lee

You can open up an HTML page containing a Flash swf file.
Write in the Frame Name in the Target: box of the getURL action.

Hi Vera...

Simply change your settings to HIGH, not AutoHigh and you should be fine.

That was probably me. I wasn't looking for your phone number, I was curious
if there was a pointer to that really nice telephone movie that was
mentioned a while back. I already know the URL, but thought I'd see if there
was also a link to it on FlashTech. Just idle futzing around to play with
the search feature.

Easy to jump to the wrong conclusions with just a little information :-)
We don't link to demo sites at the Flash Tech Resource but with the new
search function we may add that feature to FC in the future.

Hi Chris,

My Basic Tell Target shpows tha basic button technique.
http://www.FlashCentral.com/Tutorials/TellTarget.htm
Now that we have search we will be improving keyword searches.

For your specific request I would make a nested movie clip (one inside
the other.

I would start by creating a n MC with an instance name of Fade.
In frame 1 create a new MC called with an instance name Action.
Put a Park frame (blank keyframe and stop action) in frame 1. Put
standard action in following frames with a stop action in last frame.
In the Fade MC create an alpha Tween to fade out.

On Mouse Over
Tell Target Target: /Fade/Action
Go to and Play Label: Start (Start should be frame 2)
End Tell Target
End On(0)

On Mouse Out
Tell Target Target: /Fade
Go to and Play Label: Start (Start should be frame 2)
End Tell Target
End On(0)

In last frame of Fade MC put these actions

Tell Target Target: /Fade/Action
Go to and Stop Label: Park (Park is frame 1)
End Tell Target
Go to and Stop Park

The above should be close if not exact.
Will play animation once and fade out on Mouse Out, no matter what state
the animation is in. So if animation is still playing when moused out
then it will continue yto play while it is also fading out.
