Thanks, Nadia.  I get it now -- the movieclip is already in the movie

you're loading.   Sorry to be so dense, and thanks for your answer --

it'll be helpful next time I'm thinking how to structure something that

has to be loaded externally!  (I always thought of levels and movieclips

are one-or-the-other kinds of things, but of course they don't need to

be).
