Aaron:

I know that others have posted on this. If you want a maximized multiuser
experience today, one should strongly considering wrapping a Flash movie in
Shockwave to leverage the much more extensive functionality of Lingo
scripting and tightly integrated server components such as the free (with
Director 7/8) Shockwave Multiuser Server.

We just opened up http://www.director8.com/ where we were able to
completely bypass a number of browser plug-in to Javascript compatibility
issues (aka complete non functioning in some browsers) by using a group of
multiuser Shockwave movies which interconnect on a peer to peer basis in
the browser via the Multiuser Xtra. We're talking high-speed, sustained
peer connections with *no server* at all.

The interface for one of the movies is almost entirely Flash but leverages
Lingo for extra functionality - not even worth kludging via slow CGI or
weirdo plug-in<->js<->java communication models (which will definitely work
in very limited configurations.)

One might even argue that there are more multiuser capable Shockwave users
than Flash users when you net out the Flash enhanced browser installs which
won't support Flash<->js communication.

I think that there is major leverage to be found working the *combination*
of Flash and Shockwave - rather than forcing the mindset of either/or.

We're writing up a case study on the implementation method for our site
which will be posted there next week.

Rock on,

Terry
