FLASH: loading movie clips OR loading .swfs?

Can anyone tell me the advantages/benefits of using movie clips OR .swf files 

one over another.

We have a bunch of movies...not sure if we should make them movie clips or 

separate .swf and load when needed...we have no idea why to use which -when and 

where...Thanks for any help,  Marcia (newbie)
