Flash isn't the cancer. Poor information design is the cancer.

Flash can be very effective if used correctly. Here are a few examples of:

http://viaduct.co.uk
http://eneri.net
http://www.creative-republic.com/
http://agencypja.agencyultra.com/
http://www.melondezign.com/
http://www.k2skates.com/

These sites use Flash cleverly, deliver information in a unique,
entertaining and effective way w/o too much hype. Unlike most Flash enabled
sites, these sites defined their target audience and properly went after
them.

Most Flash enabled sites don't have a clue what a target audience is, what
information architecture is, what information delivery is, what design is,
how traditional design differs from interactive information design and
therefore they "fail."

I won't even begin to list poor examples of flash sites, as there are far
too many and can be found around just about every corner.

Technology does not make a designer.

Too many people think they can pick up the latest copy of Illustrator,
Freehand, Flash, Dreamweaver or GoLive and "pow!" they're a multimedia
designer. They are sadly mistaken. They aren't designers, they're pixel
pushing monkeys. The point being a monkey can work a keyboard and a mouse,
but the final product won't be effective information design. They might be
great at hacking the code that makes the design work the way the designer
intended it to, similar to the way a construction worker builds a structure
that the engineer has engineered to work the way the architect designed it.

Without proper training and education, one cannot be an effective
information designer. You simply can't go into a situation blind, w/no
background experience, no research, no education and deliver a piece that is
as effective as someone who is a trained and educated expert in the field.

Flash is not the cancer -- poor information designers are.
