I have to ask - but why aren't you using QTVR?
Yeah, you need a plug-in, but QT 3 is everywhere, and that should handle
most of what you require (or at least what you'd get elsewhere without a
plug-in).
You can also fake it in Flash or Director quite effectively.
Also, as for the up/down/around - that depends on your original
photograph(s) and your FOV. I've created a few using QTVR Studio, and while
that product is far from great, it's not all that bad. There are a couple of
others that allow you to go to either QT or IPIX, but I can't remember them
off hand. I believe they are the latest incarnations of 'Nodester'...
Side note - using a small 10k plug-in from BeHere for QuickTime you can now
create and distribute immersive QTVR's with video. The RealPlayer version
(using IPIX) is on their site, but the QT version is being tested now.
HTH - Cheers,
Bryan

Subject: FLASH: OT - IPIX alternative please?
Hi all...
Sorry for the OT, but judging from the experience and knowledge on this list
I
am betting there is someone here who can help out. :-) I am completely fed
up
with IPIX and need an alternative. Constant software crashes, key problems
and
poor support are the main reasons.
I have to do several 360 VRs in the coming weeks and am curious if anyone
has
suggestions for a similar product with better support and stability.
**The only conditions are that it should not require a plugin and should be
true
360 (viewing all the way up, down, and around) if possible.
BTW... I am using a Mac to do this.
Thanks a lot!!!
J
(PS: Has anyone else had this type of experience with IPIX? Did you have
any
luck with a refund or what did they do?)
