Your hit area should be a solid fill (color is irrelevant) and should exist
only in the HIT frame of the button (in the edit window). Likewise, the
other graphics should exist only in the UP, OVER, and DOWN frames.

The default palette of Flash is web-safe and should not create artifacts on
8- or 32-bit screens. Sometimes there will be ghosts in 16-bit screens
because the color matching of Flash and the browser won't coincide exactly
even for the same RGB-value color.

If you are using gradients, you are demanding more than 8-bits from the
video display and there will be dithering that may be unacceptable.
Sticking to solids will avoid this.
