Helen,

You are quite right, it just happens that I've been answering my email
offline in batches so I only saw Tewes clarification after I had sent
the original answer. It does, anyway, have the merit of being a rather
nice idea, even if I say so, and credit should be given to Tewes for
making me come up with that one.
As for a correct answer to Tewes quandry I think from his clarification
that it does have a solution but without knowing a bit more about the
process IVW uses it's useless to propose a particular solution.
>From the slim info if it's a 'pixel' that's counted then it probably is
just a link to a server under IVW control that then just gathers the
info. If this is the case then it is doable in Flash using a GetURL. It
might not work by linking directly from the same flash movie more than
once as, if the process works right, it should check for referrer but
this is also easy to hack ;).
But the best way would be to get in touch with IVW and ask them for a
'impression' counter for Flash based sites. I do think it time to start
pro actively presenting Flash as a de facto standard and demanding
support for it on this basis. The more of us that do this the quicker
this perception will start to really sink in and it will be easier for
us to defend our positions.
