Flash streams sounds using http streaming. Many
sites preload sounds and graphics for various
reasons, you can choose not to if you set your
sounds to stream (mp3, set to sync to stream)and
if the sound streams below the data rate of the
target audience. FI this site I'm working on the
sound file begins to stream pretty much right
away at 56k: (its ~350k sound file)

QuickTime uses either rtsp or http streaming
depending on set-up. Flash does not do rtsp nor
QuickTime, you can launch a QT sound in an
external window or simply embed it in the same
html page as the flash file and set it to play
right away. I've even seen some demos where a
streaming (rtsp) QT sound file launches flash
movies from QT's href track.
We've found QDesign Pro codec QT sound files
about 10x smaller than mp3s at similar sound
quality, sure would be nice if Flash allowed
embed QT files, no?
