out how you did that, so I looked up Newton's method on the web--a
*very* useful way to plot anything given that you know how to find
derivatives, it seems. For anyone interested, there's a brief
description of the method at
http://batman.eng.monash.edu.au/eng1602/online_book/node73.html. Looks
like this could be applied to any function at all; you just iteratively
subtract the ratio of a function to its derivative from x...

Well, I just thought there might be other script junkies out there who
would find this as useful/interesting as I did. Can't wait to hear more
about your Bezier example!
