Amen though, for optimization, they have a head start on us.

Vectors have charms that go beyond file size. Because they are an
description of content, they can be sized, rotated, skewed, etc. without
loss of quality. HOWEVER, I do agree with you that the "threat" of raster
content in Flash right now will be less of an issue over time. SVG and
QuickTime, as you suggest, are in a sense aimed at the next level and open
up many other opportunities. Imagine creating vector content with just a
perl script or editing a graphic with a text editor, etc.
