Hi Rusty
I looked at your new site and I have the same problem as many others.
It does take too long. I was looking at your site with an eye to how to
make it faster without ruining the concept. Converting to vector makes
good sense to me.
Speaking as an illustrator first, (long-time Flash addict second) I
have found that it doesn't take nearly as many frames in Flash at web
speeds to maintain the illusion of movement as film or video animation.
I don't think it would take 400 drawing to do what you want in vector.
If I were doing an animation for film or video I would be working at
around 24 frames per second. That could equal out to 12 to 24 drawings
per second of animation. In Flash I have found that a fps rate of 12 is
fine most of the time, and that can equal out to 6 to 12 drawing per
second.
The interesting thing is that you can make huge savings in drawing time
(and file size) by making separate symbols of each moving body part and
animating each part as a separate layer using tweening and shape
morphing. Foreshortening and profile verses front facing require
additional symbols, sometimes with a short set of transition drawings.
So in stead of making 6 to 12 separate drawing for each second of
animation you are really making your character drawing and then breaking
it up into the elements that move in relation to one another and
tweening this drawing to create you animation.
I seem to have gone on quite a bit. This is easier to show than tell,
so if you have questions let me know.

So tell me...since I am not an illustrator, I don't relly know these things, how could we get the animation that we have, with the detail that we have, in vector format? That seems to be their biggest problem with going to Vector. They think they'll have to hand trace 400 pictures in order to get what they want out of it.
