I just use Flash3 technology to do this. Simply put the MC (with the sounds
in it) inside another movie clip so you can hide it by sending the parent
movie clip to a frame where the sound movie clip does not exist. Now any
TellTargets to the sound movie clip will fail. To turn sound back on, send
the parent clip to the frame where the sound movie clip exists. I know
Flash4 can do this in the manner in which you suggest, but it's the same
amount of work and the Flash3 version is, of course, Flash3-compliant and
therefore will work for more users.
