Yes, this is most certainly an example of good usage for Generator.
As for your concerns :
-Database side : With support for JDBC include you have nothing to fear
on this side.
-Processor usage : You are right on your advice to the client but there
are ways to overcome this. As it is now the example you gave us results
in these statistics on my machine (Pentium II 350Mhz with Netscape):
Netscape - Threads used 5
Min. Cpu Usage % : 3.38
Max. Cpu Usage % : 57.98
Average Cpu Usage over 10 minutes % : 15.74
The thread occupied by Flash gives these results:
Min Cpu % : 2.26
Max Cpu % : 17.73
The info currently given is all text based so it's very easy to get it
from a database and generate appropriate text. One interesting idea
would be to have web-cameras ( eg: AXIS ) at key locations in the city
feeding the database with updated images of traffic flow. Thes could
then be included in the Flash movie.
