It should still work like that, but you have to drag the symbol (once it's

on stage) by the registration point (the +), which (if snap is turned on)

will become a little circle that can snap to the motion guide.  As you've

learned, there is value to centering your symbols as you create them in the

editing window.  BTW, an exception is when you want a symbol to have a

specific size and placement on stage -- in that case, it may be preferable

to construct it on stage, then select it and (F8) make it a symbol, so the

symbol placement doesn't need tweaking.
