I occasionally follow job leads even if the prospect of work is dubious.
This is one of those examples, a request for a "Flashmaster" that appeared
on this list a couple of days ago. Below is the response I got. As you
can see, it's a pairing of glowing compliments and a request for lots of
unpaid work with the prospect of some paid work for the lucky winner. Once
upon a time, I would have taken him up on his offer. Now I submit it to
you so you can be on guard for this sleeze.
THIS IS A QUOTE. I RECOMMEND YOU NOT WORK WITH THIS GUY.

PS: I do like his signature line, however :-)

I really appreciate everyone replying to my post for help with Flash. I
must say that most of the work I reviewed was outstanding and took me a
couple of days to look over! Below I am going to outline the specs for
what my client has in mind. [ as best I can ] If anyone feels this out
of their "area", I will understand and appreciate the honesty. There is
a 2 week deadline on this part of the project. I would love to see a
quick clip of what anyone comes up with to kind of get the ball rolling
on making my final selection on who get the project.
The scene will be of an American Bald Eagle. The whole animation should
be quick and have a fairly good download time. If there is any confusion
based on what I give out below, please send me some mail or better yet
call 704-393-8874 (home) or 704-395-0937 (office). Heck, call collect if
you have to.
Specs:
The whole animation is based on the spiritual Eagle (indian stuff)
becoming the life eagle. Hopefully I will explain what I mean here
better below.
The animation will be 99% illustration with a photographic ending. Sort
of a morph between spiritual and real life.
Size: Min. - 400 pixels wide X 300 pixels high / Max 600 X 400
Running Time: This should be pretty quick, say about 30-40 seconds or
so.
The client wants a "loading screen" intro. We would like to see a "Dream
Catcher" as the opening graphic on a very dark "morning sky" purple
colored background. A star twinkling here and there every now and then
would also be great. The words "Please wait while this site loads"
should be displayed at the bottom of the animation.
Opening scene: The Dream Catcher fades out and the eagle, very small as
if pretty far away begins to fly in from the top left corner getting
larger and more centered very quickly, sort of swooping through the air.
[The background should still be a morning sky type color, just before
the sun rises, with a little orange light to keep the eagle visible.
Think shadowy. I had to watch some serious National Geographic to get a
clear idea of what this should look like.:) ]
Moving on: We then would like to see the eagle swoop downward turn from
the left of the screen to the right and the upward and away to what
seems to be a tree on the right in the distance. [ At the start of this
sequence the tree should be sort of vague in the distance and become
clearer as the eagle gets closer. The tree will need to be a dead old
tree with a branch hanging out for the eagle to land on. It should also
only be visible in part, as if half out of the scene from the right]
Next: The eagle should turn and come back at the viewer and land on the
branch facing the viewer, sort of shudder, spread it's wings and screech
then, lower it's wings.
Ending: The eagle would then look over it's left shoulder and the sun
will begin to rise on the viewers right hand side of the animation. At
this point the eagle will turn from the illustration to photrealistic.
It would be great if the morph from illustration to photrealistic would
start at the top and work it's way down as the sun falls across the
eagles body, but it is not a big issue if it adds to much download time
or increases the cost dramatically.
The final image will be provided and the entire illustration should
conclude with an illustration of this image morphing in some way to the
photograph and then freeze.
The words "At Last..." should fade in, in the top left corner and should
be underlined. Not real big, just think 1/2" in print.
There will some text that will fade in, in he bottom right hand corner.
This will probably occupy about a 4" wide X 2" tall space and has not
yet been determined, but will by the time we choose the Flashmaster in
question.
After seeing the clips and quotes for completed work, we will decide on
which designer to go with. We Feel 50% up front and the balance upon
completion is a fair deal. We would like to see the quotes first and the
clips asap afterwards. Please keep the deadline in mind. This, I am sure
will lead to more work, including the Digicom Design [
http://www.digicomdesign.com ] flash site in the near future. I am
looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.
Again I would like to thank you all for your time and interest, you are
truly great.
