I'm not sure I accurately followed all this "did do this, didn't do that"
of the description, but for the general "What's the best way to synch Flash
and audio for QuickTime export?" then I'd generally synch *after*
everything is in QuickTime.

Why? Both Flash and Shockwave are event-based... every frame will always
display. QuickTime, like audio, is time-based... it will drop frames to
maintain time. It's easier to synch a time-based audio stream with a
time-based video stream, than it is to synch audio to events in a Flash
movie and then convert everything to time-based QuickTime.

Rephrased, export *animation* from Flash or Director to QuickTime. You can
then strip in audio with even the basic MoviePlayer editor.

(The same holds true for transitions and other special effects... it's
easier to handle this once you've got your final video stream, than when
creating something in the interactive production tools.)

Summary: Instead of adding the audio early and converting it, try exporting
the animation to QuickTime. It's easier to synch the audio in then.
