hi tony
i guess there are many ways to rome but what i do with my flash-projects is,
i try to bundle information that belonges together. like making a new .swf
for each kategory or even a few .swf for one kategory.

for example if you have a quick look at www.naloo.net. the name at the top,
the navigation and the drawings at the beginning are seperate .swf's. like
that i can easaly show one random image without having to load all of them.
and then each navigation-button calls a new .swf and if you click on "work"
you will see that each example will load a new .swf. not knowing what the
site-visitor will look at i decided to load the details only when the surfer
realy wants the information, making the size of the whole movie quite a bit
smaller and downloading times at the beginning defenitely shorter.

the other thing you might consider is, that graphical elements in flash
normaly dont weight too much, but jpg can get quite heavy. so i would rather
split up the movie in order to controll the jpg-file-sizes.

with an other site i am just working on, i only seperated the jpgs from the
base-movie again for the same reasons as above. if you want to have a look:
www.garda.ch

hope i could help you a little!

bye nadia
