Darren -

I'm responding to your post here, as well as on FLASHmacromedia. In the
future, I'd like to ask - with all due respect - that you not cross-post the
same question.

Netscape downloads an installer. You have to launch the installer by
double-clicking on it. Sorry, I agree, it's not seamless, but that's how
plug-ins are installed into that browser. We used to have an auto-install on
Netscape back in the days of Flash 3, but we have since discontinued it.

IE (on Windows) autoinstalls the ActiveX player. In some cases, it may ask
to reboot, but that is definitely the exception. I don't have an official
answer on why it wants to reboot, but my theory is that the current player
may be in use, and that it won't overwrite the file.

I agree that this is not an optimal condition, either, but I feel it's more
of an issue with Windows than with Flash, specifically. Installing other
ActiveX controls will exhibit the same behavior.

We should make a TechNote on this, as it's a very legitimate concern and a
FAQ. I'll see to it that we make one shortly.

Matt
