They're not necessary, and in some circumstances
can actually cause problems (if you try to pass
variables from one scene to the next, etc). Scenes
are just an organizational tool, for authoring Flash,
and they don't make it to the final SWF file. It's
probably best to just learn to do everything without
scenes; there is no advantage to them other than
organization of your FLA (They don't help file size
either, obviously, because they don't even exist in
the SWF).
