Add a motion tween to the end of your movie clip with the effect you want. Where there clip ends now add a goto frame 1 frame action so it loops. Add an on_release action to the button that points to the instance fish from the _root and give it the action goto the frame where your new tween begins. IF you have more stuff to tween in the fish instance than you think possible simple create a new clip with two layers with an instance of fish in frame one. Make the tween and put a stop action on Frame one.

Replace the fish instance you have now with your new clip. Use goto next frame on your button action and point it to _root.newMCinstance

  This really should be simple, and bless the soul who explains it to me...

  I have a 1 frame project that has 2 items in the first frame:


  1.  A button

  2.  A movie clip of a fish swimming around whose instance name is "fish"


  What I want to happen is when the button is clicked, the fish's opacity

  begin to reduce until it is invisible WITHOUT the fish movie clip changing

  from where it is when the button is clicked.  I've tried several methods

  whose logic should have worked but didn't.  If anyone can explain how to

  make this happen in Flash 5, I would be very grateful.  If you'd rather not

  explain, I have the file as described above at the following URL, and would
