Hi Alec,

 

There is no such customer data protection act in place in Chinese Market
and some local online ads agencies are selling email data to clients at
a cheaper rate. 

 

However, the email database you get from the agencies will always have a
large number of non-active emails. The conversion rate you will get in
China are always lower than your current rate in the UK.

 

In terms of email clients, the 3 sites you mentioned are quite large,
you will also need to look into QQ.com, sohu.com at same time.

 

Have you also looked into Social media marketing in China? Please note,
there is no Twitter or Facebook access from China. You will need to
start a SINA weibo account (local twitter) instead.

Hi Folks

 

Can anyone help me with some insight into email marketing in China?

 

We're looking after the online aspects of a product launch in China, one
aspect of which is the email marketing.

 

Are there any major pitfalls i should be aware of?

 

e.g. 

What restrictions does the government put on email marketing?

 

what are top (desktop) email clients I need to support?

 

are 163.com / 126.com / sina.cn etc fiddly to support?

 

What else should I be aware of?

 

I'll probably use Campaign Monitor to send emails but we might opt for a
local firm instead, as long as they are aware of whatever the equivalent
to Outlook 2007 / Gmail rendering issues are in China.

 

It's been a real education so far - post code data is about as precise
as throwing a dart at a map, in the dark, while wearing boxing gloves.
I'm hoping the email will be plain-sailing by comparison.

 

Any tips or experiences greatly appreciated.
