Subject: UKNM: RE: Memes and Dawkins

Just my twopennethworth:

IMHO Dawkins is only a propagator and evolver of his own ego. Most of his
books are very loose scientifically with a lot of good prose.... but should
they be in the fiction or non-fiction section? It's a pity that all you need
is a doctorate or professional qualification and people don't consider
whether you're just a little half-baked. Just remember how few of the
scientific theories that were 'created' in or before the 19th Century are
still true today. What comes around, goes around.

Hands up who thought that 'Walking with Dinosaurs' was accurate?
And those that thought that perhaps the odd skeleton really can't give us
much of a clue about what did happen in those times?

Cheers

John

Richard Dawkins likens religion to viral infection - if you don't catch
it from your parents, there is a good chance you might catch it at
school. By far the best book ever written (IMHO) on evolutionary theory
and propagation of memes/genes/etc. is Darwin's Dangerous Idea by Daniel
C Dennett - worth a read even if you think we're all stretching a point
just a little too far here.
