As far as "direct email marketing" goes, nowadays I filter messages

from addresses I know (friends, family, co-workers) into a separate

folder. 99% of what ends up in my inbox is unsolicited, so I can just

give it a quick scan to see if any of it is from someone I haven't got

a filter for yet, and delete the rest. So no matter how wonderful your

product, service, or message is, I'm not going to read it. Tough luck.
