Ben I reckon this has got something to do with the way we process and retain
information - written info is much more likely to make it around the
articulatory loop and into the long term memory space if it is reinforced
aurally. We retain up to 50% more of what we see if we hear it too. And if
what we're looking at is visually stimulating - ie it moves or pictorially
reinforces what we're reading - we remember even more

So although I loved the Lean Back/Lean To stuff and think you very
perceptive, I'm of the opinion that info on the web will in future be
presented in a sound and vision combined way v much like TV - only with the
added power generated by the intensity of the lean to style of PC
presentation

So....in future....
For basic web functions that have little need to *think* too much - 'TV'
style access for shopping etc
Researching/thinking/communicating difficult info - PC style access

But both benefiting from higher production values with more elements
combined than our current stuff, restricted as it is to being pretty clumsy
due to our sh*t*y bandwidth

Just my penn'orth

Lois
