Subject: UKNM: E-commerce fiasco

I was amused to read in New Media Age on its new beta web pages a comment
piece by Phil Dwyer saying the recent e-Christmas project was not a failure.

He was at issue with a New York Times article (I can't seem to pull it up
on my computer at the moment) saying that although the numbers who bought
were low, the technology was a success.

What he failed to mention is just how low - the whole high-profile,
expensive project netted around 500 purchasers and (I seem to remember)
250,000 visitors.

Surely NMA is whistling in the wind? Surely at this rate it will be well
after 2000 before consumers buying online becomes a significant force in
Europe?
