You place a set of dummy links on banner/buttons (with direct links outside
of the affiliation tracking), though too small to click on google sees them
and eats them up.

Tim am I going to die? ;o(

(We do not do this, have never done this and would not do it)

This 'link popularity' factor counts most in Google and yes, I have had a
case where the 'off the shelf' affiliate scheme for a client didn't include
the benefit of a direct link. I could tell you how I got around this, but
then I'd have to kill you.
