As far as I'm aware, one of the reasons for the success of iMode is that it
operates on a packet-switched network (PDC-P?) whereas WAP is currently
operating over GSM, which is circuit-switched. This means, as Leslie
pointed out, that users of WAP have to do everything online and therefore
pay for all that time. When GSM gets upgraded to GPRS, we will get
packet-switching too, which means that we can do things like compose e-mails
offline.
I think we've had this debate before.
