Subject: RE: UKNM: are .com domains necessary for startups?

I've seen brainstorming work extraordinarily well for this, and I'd add a
few comments to go with the rules:

1. Make everyone feel able to contribute by asking for a "housekeeping rule"
(there's a better term for this, but it's not easily accessible in my brain
right now) which everyonehas to abide by during the session. Things like -
put your mobi/phone onto voicemail; no suggestions are stupid; no arguing
with the session leader

It's an icebreaker as well as a warm up for the brainstorming itself.

2. Brainstorming can work quite well by email too

3. Getting someone from your business to act as session leader can be a good
personal development opportunity for those who don't get to do presentations
or run events. You do need the "No arguing ..." rule here though!

Domain names are now inextricably linked to brands, to the point that if you
want to launch a new brand or business, you have to check the domain name
availability, along with the company name, trademarks, etc. Having gone
through the process just over a year ago, I can't see that it's a problem to
anyone prepared to put some work into it.
