The two biggies are iSyndicate and Screaming Media. They both
now have UK offices. Their business models are slightly different
(you can see the link below for an interview with iSyndicate
about this.) They syndicate your content to lots of other Web sites.
iPipe syndicates your content to large portals, but at this time
is only interested in US-centric content.

You can also self-sell your content direct-to-consumer using services
such as MightyWords. They have a store online where authors/publishers
upload content and then it's digitally downloaded to buyers in a secure
format. Several other sites are also doing this, such as Motley Fool's
SoapBox for financially-related content.

[shameless plug] we cover the whole "how do I sell content online?"
question every week at ContentBiz.com -- http://www.contentbiz.com
and yeah, we're free.

Subject: UKNM: who buys words?

Hi all

I co-run an online-only magazine site that's built steadily for the past 12
months or so. The publishing biz isnt my main area of expertise so I'm
looking for some help..

The site features mostly localised content (ie UK regional) but generally
above-average features and reviews of music, film, theatre, etc, produced
by a mix of journos and wannabe journos on a data-driven site that's about
to be xml-enabled.

Anyway, we've got stories coming out of our ears and we reckon we could be
re-selling the content.

I have some ideas and contacts, and have found things like www.uclick.com,
but can anyone tell me:

a) is this a realistic plan?
b) if so, who to approacch, on what basis, etc

on-list for general advice - off-list for further details

thanks

mark
