Subject: UKNM: Viral Marketing tighter definition

Product placement is not viral marketing. What makes marketing viral?

I'd use a narrower definition than has been discussed on this thread.

To my mind, you should look at computer and biological viruses and consider
how a campaign/excercise may have attributes or behaviours that are similar
to viruses. Viruses are not placed, they start off and then spread from
place to place, host to host <by using the energy of the host>. You can't
predict where they will be found. They are tricky, surprising little
buggers.

So, viral marketing. Anything that is kicked off in one place, then finds
its way to other, unknown places by human contact of some sort (that
includes: word of mouth, email, mailing lists, other media coverage (PR)
etc. etc.)
