Subject: UKNM: Looking for an online marketing agency

I represent a major retailer of travel books, maps and accessories that
launches a database driven e-commerce site in two weeks time.
We have been looking for some time for specialist online marketing support
to assist with the launch and ongoing traffic to the site.

Directories and search engines:
Submission and optimisation. Is this a manual process? How important is the
use of software to perform this task? We have considered the use of
Interceptor, although some agencies have suggested that it would not be
necessary.

Affiliate programmes:
We have considered the use of affiliate networks (Magic Button; UK
Affiliates), or trying to go solo. If solo, is there software off-the-shelf
that runs in the UK? What are the pitfalls? If solo, how do we track
affiliate activity? Is this tracking auditable?

Tracking:
We have looked at one or two software packages that track customer activity
(Intellitracker). We have two tracking requirements - first to track
affiliate activity in order to pay commissions for sales referred. Second,
to track sources of customers both in general (eg Which search engine?) and
specific (Which campaign?).

Permission e-mail campaigns:
We have a list of 2,500 subscribers to our site prior to go-live. What
should we do with it? How should we use it? What sort of launch campaign?

Newsgroups/Forums:
We need help in the use and development of newsgroups and forums. We have no
experience in this area, but have been told that it should form an important
part of our online marketing strategy.

Online PR:
We have engaged an offline PR agency for both the launch and first twelve
months of trading. We need specific help for the online PR.

Any help or advice about who to use/where to go would be much appreciated

Ed
