Warren,
Yes Opera is very cool. The installation file at 1.29Mb is smaller than
some plugins we both know and love ;), it's fast and because it doesn't
come from the US it includes strong cryptographic security from the
origin, plus it can be used in countries where US origin products can
not be used, and this is important for some of us that have clients in
those countries.
Macromedia players are only targeted for Microsoft and Netscape based
browsers, but it shouldn't be to hard for Macromedia to support other
browsers outside of these categories, what would it take ? One week's
worth of programming probably ?
Anyway, Opera does work with the latest versions of Flash and Director
plugins but if anyone wants to have a site handy to test installation I
don't recommend using either Macromedia's base site or Shockwave site.
Macromedia's site insists on displaying the alternate page and Shockwave
is a bit unstable under Opera or Opera is unstable viewing Shockwave.
One site that does allow for quick and easy testing is nightwares as it
has both flash and director content.
Nigel
