Everything in Flash animates along the timeline.
A Movie Clip can run on its own timeline whether or not there is also
action on the main timeline.
I always suggest you don't use Scenes because there are problems with
Scenes and Movie Clips.
Layers are used primarily to separate elements of a movie with higher
layers apearing at the same time but above the lower layers in the same
frame.
Action takes place along the timeline one frame at a time whether on the
main timeline or on a Movie Clip timeline (or both happening
simultaneously).
