Go have a look at my transparent experiment ;)

There are some side effects yes... - what I can gather from the code i use
is that the only constraint i have is the end user ... or target public ...
800 X 600 or 640 X 480 and so on ... setting it not to go for exact fit will
lose all screen res lower then the one designed for and setting to exact fit
.. will benefit all depending on window size - but once again a gamble ....
what am i blabbering on for ... go look at the source code and be the judge

Hello all,

Can anybody confirm that when setting a flash movie to be transparent in
Aftershock, then the resulting movie will not be transparent in
Netscape, and the successful transparent movie in IE will have
unappealing side effects to any links or buttons that are contained in
the movie - that is, the finger mouse icon flickers when hovering over a
link, where it normally should stay on.

Are there any workarounds and is this an accepted flaw.
