Flash format (swf) is open, yes, but the fla format is not, so no
editors, as that would require reverse engineering of fla files
something that is easy to do but not very legal I would think. My guess
is that we will see a 'swf->fla' translator before a 3rd party editor.
As for players these exist in various forms and flavours some I have
seen/played with include:
- *nix players for Flash2 w/o sound support, with sound support and
Flash3,
- OS400 player for Flash2 w/o sound support(ported from *nix sources!),
and
- Java multi platform players
