I have to second jd's advice, even though you didn't ask for it ;-) just
in case a non-Macromedia person's advice makes any difference.
Everything about Flash 4 is very specific only to Flash 4, but learning
Flash 5 opens doors to all kinds of other possibilities. On the drawing
side, the use of pallettes (which MM calls panels) and bezier tools in
Flash 5 makes it very similar to many widely-used graphics packages, but
that's just the cake beneath the icing. The real power (she says, in
her best programmer voice) is in the new Flash 5 actionscript which,
once learned, can be applied to any other object-oriented programming
language, meaning that you get back what you put into learning it
several times over, both in terms of being able to create
well-controlled (and now well-documented) animations and whole
applications, and in terms of extensibility to other web and non-web
apps. (This, I have to say, was not true of Flash 4). Well, I could
stay on this soapbox all day, but I guess it's time to step down and get
back to work.

Regards,
Helen
