You might want to take a look at BTNet Start (http://www.bt.net/)
The price has just been halved to 3000 pounds a year for a 64K perminant
connection, and if you install before September some time, they waive the
connection charge.
The catch is, and the reason that it is less than half the price of a
dedicated leased line, is that the line has a 10:1 contention ratio, that is
at some point 9 other 64K lines join it to compete for that 64K. With BT
saying that the system would be suitable for LANs of up to 20 people, if I
understand it correctly there could be 200 people all competing for that 64K
bandwidth.
I'm very tempted, but holding off at the moment, waiting to hear from
someone who has actually tried the system. Anyone out there on UKNM? My ISDN
connection works well at the moment, and I don't want to shell out 3 grand
to go back to connecting at the same speed as my old 14.4 modem.
