No.
1. Investors will continue to show interest in internet-related stock.
2. The trend for internet-related and other tech stock will continue to be
up in comparison with old-economy stock
3. The recent blip in tech stock is welcome in my books as a means of
bringing a greater degree of sanity to investment markets as the fools who -
without due care and attention - invested in Lastminute.com, et al, stop and
lick their burnt fingers.
The recent minor slump is not a disaster for Lastminute either since they
have just raised a huge amount of money which, one hopes, they will use to
grow the business with a proper degree of sensible management. If they
achieve proper growth, then their share price will eventually catch up with
the hype (which was not entirely of their own making anyway).
Don't know if they can do this or not as I don't know anybody on their
management team. Would be happy to review their business plans for them and
report back to this group if so desired.
Perhaps, with a bit of luck, all of the bandwagon jumpers with
loadsainvestmentmoney will start to look more closely at the business plans.
Smart money is seldom impressed by big ideas alone. More by the quality of
the management team and the business model the management demonstrates.
But expect those with their feet firmly cemented in old money (not to
mention their mates in the press) to be trumpeting the dot.com doom and
gloom until judgement day (which for many of them is only a matter of years
away).
The good news is, there is still enough interest from serious investors to
allow the best of the good ideas, business plans and management teams to get
the support they need to get some wonderful new businesses up and running.
