I think it is starting to settle down, and the workable business models

that are well implemented are starting to see success. The idea that some

of the biggest names in e-commerce may run out of money in 6-12 months

unless they start to make a profit is more of an internal wake up call than

any media hype-fest telling us all to go jump off a cliff.


As any consultant worth their salt will tell you, a crap idea badly

implemented is as unlikely to succeed on the Internet as it is in any other

medium.


If anyone genuinely believes that all dot-coms are doomed to failure, and

that it is not possible to make a profit from e-commerce, then they

probably also believe that man cannot travel at more than 30mph for fear of

suffocation. I will gladly prove them wrong on both counts (yes Carl, I've

got it now :o)


What will start to happen is that the fact that a business operates online

will become a non-issue, and the fact that it is successful or well-known

will become the focus. Rather in the same way we don't walk into a news

agent and ask for a carbonated drink with vegetable extracts.
