.Com Fever, Is it really over?

I notice that the media are now trumpetting the fact that .com fever
is over and judging by the number of companies dumping the .com suffix
from their names maybe it is. However we're still being approached by
numerous groups asking whether we can build portal style or
destination web sites.

Some of these are people with a good idea and no cash 'we're looking
for funding and it looks promising' sort of thing, but some still seem
very serious, have the funding and are going ahead, often with
excellent ideas and good business plans.

By .com fever being over, if this means some of the over the top
valuations based on little more than a good idea, then maybe yes.

On the other there are still hundreds of ideas still unseen on the web
and any group of people with half a brain and couple of hours to spend
could come up with half a dozen good ones. However as we all know it's
the technical and commercial considerations that are tough to get
right.

There is a school of thought that says we've only really seen the
beginning and I wondered what the panel's opinion on this was.
