Funny how both you and Peter respond to my previous post regarding other
RADEs that create cross platform projects, in which post I mentioned
Codewarrior, iShell, Livestage, and PowerPoint2k with a discussion solely on
mTropolis. You both also ignored my comment that Director is frequently
mentioned (here) to folks who simply want to do a presentation that includes
video or hi-res graphics for CD or other hi-bandwidth delivery. I don't
recall _ever_ saying (and I would dissuade anyone who did) that it would not
be best to have Director on the same OS for authoring complex applications
that require platform specific xtras, system calls, etc.
I was and still am talking about more simple presentations, for which there
obviously is a demand given the number of folks attempting to make CDs with
Flash. For such simple presentations, it pretty easy for a skilled producer
to create a presentation that plays just fine on both without needing
re-authoring, the harder part is creating a cross platform CD with the
proper disk format and names, which having two copies of Director helps very
little with.
JD's post has been the standard Macromedia party line on this subject for
years now (except for the helpful discussion of stub projectors), and I was
merely pointing out that this line no longer holds true for the simple mixed
media presentations that folks are trying to create in Flash. IMHO, the jump
from the price of Flash to two copies of Director for x-platform authoring
OF SUCH PROJECTS will likely prevent many either from creating a x-platform
presentation or from using Director to do so. How either case helps MACR I
have no idea.
