it's a calendar,

displays a month (Sun - Sat 7 column grid)
you can click on a day (MovieClip) and add notes, alarms etc,
it's working using ASP and SQL

anyway, I now wanted the user to be able to select a range of dates to mark

ie. click on a date and then shift-click on another

Need more info. What do you mean by "select" - you, in development mode?
Or the user? If the user, how do you mean select? Are the items on the
screen text boxes? Movie Clips? Buttons? Draggable items? What is it you
are wanting to "do" with these items?

As far as I know, there is not a "double-key" detection in Flash 4.0 if that
is what you need, but as far as workarounds, we'd need more info I think, to
know what you're trying to accomplish.
