A lot might depend on which account you emailed in the .macromedia domain.
Serialization should definitely work, and there should be an escalation
number or address on that page. (Something like "If you're having
difficulties downloading or installing".)
Each actual purchase comes with a support contract, and it's vital that
paid customers actually be able to use the tool. Free demos usually have
some access point for personal time, but from what you wrote I'm not sure
where you went or what you needed, sorry.
(Tip: The macromedia.generator newsgroup is a free access point for
everyone... you may have other options available to you too.)
