Subject: UKNM: Search Engine Optimisation

Hi Will

Just a quick reply - I don't think this list are stuck on JUST using Search
Engines as a means of getting traffic to their site... but there are many
reasons why they are discussed frequently:
- Search Engines are not directly in our control and not directly
measurable, therefore the best-practise methods are constantly changing.
(although you can see the click-throughs and searches that caused visits)
- Each engine works in a slightly different way adding to complexity.
- You can never guarantee where your placement will be (please, no more,
Jude, I'm a broken man!)
- They are free (apart from the effort into registering with then)
- They give you a truly global reach
- You get new completely new visitors
- You can get a large amount of sustainable traffic from good search engine
optimisation
- We all want an easy way to register with them, but realise that this is
fantasy!
- I repeat, they're free (ditto, Jude!)

For The Good Book Guide, without an enormous marketing budget at our
disposal, they are about the second most important part of the online
marketing mix.

Cheers

Hello I am new to this chatlist, but want to comment on the whole area of
Internet Marketing. Search engine submissions (particularly when optimised
and
manually submitted) are aimed at driving additional traffic to a site. But
why
limit yourself to just search engine submissions when they is a whole raft
of
Internet Marketing activities that can be carried out. Its a bit like an
off
line marketer saying I am going to do marketing, but I will only use
advertising
and ignore the rest of the marketing mix. Trying to convince people that
they
need to look beyond search engines is really hard - is it me or is anybody
else
having problems with this?
(PS I've not even mentioned the cowboys in this industry who use mass
submission
tools and claim that they have then "optimised your search results")

The key to search engine submissions is that you receive advice on how best
to
optimize you web page, how well your competitors perform in search engine
results, where you should position yourself (category wise) within search
engines. On the basis of this information you should
