I think this is really too broad for this list.

In breif XML seperates content from presentation and structure. Think of XML
as an internet language not a web language. It's designed to allow one XML
document to be visible in multiple environments and for multiple
applications. It is the way forward for internet applications - and is what
HTML should have been although the two are very different.

Look into XHTML which is a project to transfer HMTL into the world of XML.
