Subject: UKNM: Newspapers shaft dot-coms big time
From: Ray Taylor
Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2000 19:59:07 GMT

Media Week, Jan 21, front page, by Amy Vickers: "Agency chiefs say dotcom
clients are being charged up to 50% more for slots, claiming that Associated
Newspapers, The Guardian, The Times, The Express and Financial Times have
all inflated their prices."
..."Agencies say the nationals have effectively formed a cartel
discriminating against dotcoms and that high press prices may spark rate
rises in other media."

Full story can be found at: www.mediaweek.co.uk

Is such a move justified by the huge budgets being thrown at dot-com
launches by VCs and the competitive nature of print and web or is it just a
cynical attempt to cash in on internet fever? Or are the 'papers just
running scared of online and trying to push back the tide?

And will TV and poster rates go up too?
