I love this whole Herman Miller thing.

For years Charles and Ray Eames' little aluminium number (distributed by
Herman
Miller) has supported the slack and pampered arses of 95 percent of the ad
industry. You know the ones. Low back in a sort of knobbly black wool.
Aluminium
frame inc. arms. 5 legged, star shaped base.

I'm looking at four right now.

For as long as I can remember these were amongst the splendid artifacts that
made agencies the hideously unimaginative spaces they traditionally are.
Along
with Artemide desk lamps, farting leather sofas, those bloody uncomfortable
'leather cube in a chrome frame' foyer armchairs and fucking awful corporate
art.

Suddenly, in some ghastly aberration of Wallpaper* induced irony, these
dreary
little yuppie-perches are fashionable. More to the point, there's one in the
window of the Conran Collection for 1750.

Suddenly they're disappearing from the office. In herds.

What's going on?

Are the creatives nicking them to stick around the Iroko and Yarrah wood,
spindly legged dining tables in their Clerkenwell lofts?

Or have they just grown tired? Having absorbed three decades of cokey arse
sweat
from hassled Account directors, they've evolved a kind of rudimentary
intelligence. Every night they come to life, form little escape cadres and
clip-clop quietly on tiny, pointy feet through the suburbs of North London,
via
untravelled backtracks parallel to the A1 to release themselves in the
Highlands
among the gamboling herds of liberated Vitras, Aerons, Eames recliners,
SWCs,
Jacobsen eggs and Majestic, overstuffed Connolly hide wing-backed,
swivelling
power brokers thrones.

Christ, I should get out more.....
