Subject: UKNM: Fulfillment hell, epilogue
From: Peter Borg

Not wishing to continue the thread of HMV bashing, but....

I went to HMV as it was the only well-known site I could find that
had all the discs I wanted.

After more than six weeks, still no result, so I cancelled the order,
trawleda couple of other sites, and in the end ordered from Chaos
Music in Australia.

The discs arrived yesterday, five days after placing the order,
delivered internationally, more cheaply than from HMV, and through
customs without a hitch.

Other major players, e.g. Virgin, Amazon or CDNow, didn't even list
the discs I wanted.

It seems very odd that I can fulfill an order myself in five days yet
it took HMV more than six weeks apparently to do nothing.

If this is the kind of "service" offered then it won't be a suprise
if people switch off to shopping online.

I suppose if online services are bad enough, people will visit
high-street stores, or is this just too cynical of me?

In this situation I'd much rather shop online, especially if what I
want is not particularly mainstream, or is likely to be low stock.
Saves me having to keep going back to the store.

Peter.
